The following family is said to be a branch of the Brownlows of Tyroconnel, which came to Ireland from Belton, England and settled in Derryland, Portadown, County Armagh, Ireland on the estate of Lord Charlemont.

ARMS: Or, an inescutcheon within an orle of martlets sa.
CREST: On a chapeau gu, turned up on erm, a greyhound Statant or.

The earliest Irish Brownlee record is Elizabeth Brownlee, christened on 27 July 1671 at Dory Cathedral, Templemore, Londonderry, Ireland[1]. She was married on 13 July 1690 to ..........?

John Brownlee, County Armagh Ireland married Jane Muholland (NB - John and Jane were the parents of Thomas Brownlee proven by Australian Marriage Certificate of Thomas Brownlee and Mary Ellen Box dated 13 July 1874).

They had Issue:

1. Thomas Brownlee, born 18 September 1845 in County Armagh Ireland, died circa 1923 (or 1916 per Allan Brownlee).  Came to Sydney with William in 1852. Thomas was married at Kempsey, McLeay River by William H. Thornton on 13 July 1874 to Mary Ellen Box born c1855 in Hobartville, Tasmania, daughter of William Box, farmer and Ann Charlton. Both William and Ann met as convicts in Tasmania and after they were given their freedom, moved to the Macleay in c1870.

They had issue:

1. Jane Brownlee, born 1875

2. Frederick William Brownlee, born 23 June 1876 in Bellingen died 27 April 1931 in Bellingen. He was married on 15 July 1903 in Bellingen to Clara Catherine Kahoe born 1883 in Pine Creek, Raleigh NSW and died 29 October 1949 in Bellingen

They had issue:

1. Frederick Geoffrey Brownlee died on 11 July 1945 in Sandakan Borneo. NSW. Paybook photograph, taken on enlistment, of NX46612 Bombardier Geoffrey Frederick Brownlee, 2/15th Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. He was one of over 2000 Allied prisoners of war (POW) held in the Sandakan POW camp in north Borneo, having been transferred there from Singapore as a part of B Force. The 1494 POW's that made up B Force, were transported from Changi on 7 July 1942 on board the tramp ship Ubi Maru, arriving in Sandakan Harbour on 18 July 1942. Bombardier Brownlee, aged 33, died as a prisoner of the Japanese on 11 July 1945. He was the son of William and Clara Catherine Brownlee, and the husband of Sadie Frances Brownlee, of Bellingen, NSW. 2. Nellie Irene Nicole Brownlee born 1904 in Bellingen died 1977.

3. Cyril Stanley Brownlee born 4 February 1907 in Gordonville NSW died 12 January 1962 in Toowoomba Queensland. Cyril was married on 6 June 1931 in Warwick, Queensland to Merle Isabel Clements born 24 July 1911. Merle died 17 April 1966 in Brisbane, Queensland.

1. William Allan Brownlee born 30 November 1931 in Warwick, Queensland. William was married on 10 January 1959 in Sandgate, Queensland to Shirley May Watson born 8 January 1937.

Henry Pollard and Mary Ann Mckenzie were married on 17 December 1885.

Alan was married on 26 March 1931 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Dawes Point to Jessie Fairfax Macdougall, born 24 August 1912 at Piermont Sydney and died 26 March 1958. Jessie's siblings were: Flora, Neil, Donald, Ronald, Angus, Alan, Keith, Douglass, Gordon, Wallace, Heather, Beatrice and Beryl Macdougall.

1. Floradene Heather Brownlee born 27 July 1931 was married on 25 february 1950 at Campsie NSW to Roy George Alan Jones born 2 March 1928. Floradene died 21 October 2000 and is buried at Coopernook.

1. Susan Ann Jones, born 20 September 1950 and was married on 26 October 1970 to Barry White born 16 October 1945. Susan died 1 June 2008, her ashes cast to the sea off Harrington Wall.

William Brownlee, (Photo) born County Armagh  Ireland in 1837, died at his home in Thora Road, Bellingen on 29 September 1927.  William married Mary McNally born 1847 in County Armagh, Ireland, daughter of Mr and Mrs Bernard McNally. Mary came to Australia in 1852, with her parents aboard the 'Sandringham'. Mary died on 26 January 1934 in Bellingen. See biography for William Brownlee and Mary Brownlee.

Ioleane was a devout Catholic and one of Bellingen's oldest and highly respected citizens. She came to Fernmount at the age of 3 along with her parents. Her funeral took place in Bellingen on 6 June 1983, conducted by Father Carney. Intered in Bellingen Cemetery. (4)
